AI is not a standalone entity.  It’s a developing tool that requires entire ecosystems to form around it in order to integrate into our world.  As AI matures, it creates opportunities through shifting needs in fields like law, insurance, public policy, urban planning, accessibility, standards, education, design, and maintenance. As the field broadens from development to application, women who were proportionally underrepresented in the engineering of AI have an opportunity to embrace leadership roles as we craft the architecture of its deployment.  AI is at an inflection point and it's important that the narrative around women and tech evolves at pace with the field.

With companies automating entry level jobs and a restructuring workforce, we don’t need to encourage every aspiring female leader into a software engineering pipeline to narrow the gender gap. Women already hold incredible expertise in design, governance, policy, and human systems. By founding startups and assuming leadership roles creating solutions to emerging problems in AI-adjacent industries, women can help write the rules of the new economy rather than just adapting to them. Tech is no longer an industry or specialty, it’s the framework of our world, representing a wealth of opportunities beyond its creation. The last few years were about who built the tool but the next decade belongs to those who build the infrastructure that integrates it into our lives.
